If Your Money Glass Ceiling Fits, Do You Really Want to Wear It?

Who really knows who coined the term “glass ceiling” or when it was introduced?  A quick Google search has attributed it to Gloria Steinem, the Wall Street Journal and a song.  It was introduced in the 70’s, the 80’s, and maybe even as far back as the 1950’s!  Regardless of when it came to be or who first introduced it, the concept of a glass ceiling, an invisible barrier that prevents someone from achieving success, comes in all sizes and forms.  It keeps us from achieving our life purpose, finding a perfect soul-mate, getting our ideal job, and even from making, keeping, and sharing the money that we want!

I think each one of us lives inside a ‘money box’ that holds us and all things related to the money in our lives.  Our money boxes come in different shapes and sizes. And, they all have glass ceilings because there is at least one aspect of our money where we haven’t achieved success.

How is your money class ceiling trapping you?
+  not making the money I want to make
+  keeping me in debt
+  always worrying about having enough money to cover my monthly expenses
+  never able to take a vacation
+  afraid to know my bank balances
+  giving away my services for free or accepting a minimal payment for my services
+  not able to help out family or friends financially
+  don’t have anything set aside for retirement
+  can’t donate to the organizations or causes I’d like to support

How does it feel?  Is it comfortable inside that tiny, closed in, cramped money box with the glass ceiling?  Or, are you ready to BREAK THROUGH the money glass ceiling, clean up your debt, make more money, save more money and have financial independence and freedom for the rest of your life?

Imagine what life would be like if you could
+ generate the income you want
+ pay off your debt
+ build up a savings account
+ take your dream vacation
+ charge what you’re worth and get it
+ provide for an education for your children or grandchildren
+ grow a healthy retirement fund
+ support causes that are near and dear to your heart

TAX JOY, RELIEF, DREAD OR WORRY…..

Another TAX DAY, come and gone.  How was the process for you this year?  Did you have everything organized or were you digging through piles on your desk for that one receipt you wanted to be sure to include?  Were you surprised by the numbers? Delighted by your refund? Frustrated and angry when you wrote the check? Relieved it’s over?  Worried about filing late?

Tax time always seems to bring out our emotions around money.  Whether we want to admit it or not, our money holds emotional charges for us.  It can excite us, anger us, frustrate us, scare us deplete us, confuse us and control us to some degree.  As a business owner who wants to generate income, it’s important that you have some key practical money habits as well as some healthy emotional money habits.  After all, if money were simply a numbers game, the only thing you’d have to do to take control of your money would be to keep track of your numbers, right?  You’d have everything in order, you’d know exactly where you stand so there are no surprises on tax day, you’d have your return completed and filed early and it would just be another thing to do during the year.  So how’s that working for you?

If you’re ready to take a good look at the emotions wrapped up in your money and learn some key practical steps to implement so that you can clean up your money stuff, take control of your finances and end the tax return drama as well as other money drama in your life, stay tuned!  I’ll be sharing news in the upcoming week about how you can make that happen.

In the meantime, be money mindful.  Pay attention to the emotions that come up in your day-to-day money activities, in money conversations (or lack of conversations) with your partner, as you watch tv or listen to the radio.  Let me know what you discover.

Money Habits and Rituals

We are creatures of habit.  Frankly, we’re wired to be creatures of habit.  It takes a lot less energy to do something repeatedly than it does to do something new.  That’s one of the reasons travel is so exhausting!

What money habits and rituals do you have?  Do you track your income?  How and when do you pay your bills?  How do you track that?  How often do you check your bank balance or balance your checkbook?  Do you pay for groceries or gas with cash, a debit card or a credit card?   Are you saving or investing money?

The key to developing money habits and rituals that will help you enjoy financial success is to determine whether or not your money activities keep you from from financial growth.  Do you feel constricted when you do them?  If so, it’s time to exercise your money muscles and develop some new money habits that create a feeling of expansiveness and result in financial growth.  It’s gonna take some effort, some persistence, and maybe even some additional support, however, wouldn’t it be great to have complete control of your finances, pay off your debt and have money invested and in the bank so you can live the life you truly want to live?
