Why would I want to hire a coach?

This week has been International Coach Week, an acknowledgement and celebration of the coaching profession. If you’re looking for a partner to help you strengthen your leadership skills, grow your business, learn how to better deal with stress and overwhelm, take control of your finances, organize your life, find a job that you love, or help you get clear about what you want out of life and how to get it, it’s time to contact a coach.

Coaches provide support by listening and asking powerful questions. We delight in helping you recognize where you are and where you want to go. We work with you so you can create a plan to get you there, overcome challenges and we especially enjoy celebrating your successes!

Here are some of the reasons why my clients chose to work with me:
+ I’ve been really frustrated with a situation with my co-worker at my job and would love some ideas on how I can deal with the situation in a more positive way.
+ I want to get a handle on my money stuff and build up a savings account but when I have money to set aside, I splurge, and then there’s nothing left to save.
+ I have a project I want to have completed and I know I won’t get it done if I don’t have someone who will keep me on track.
+ I’m ready to start my new business and I need help figuring out where to begin.
+ I have a million ideas for my coaching business but I feel stuck and don’t know which one to do first or how to get started.
+ I would love some help re-branding my coaching business because I have a new focus.
+ I’ve written a book and gotten it published.  Now I want to promote it, but I’m not sure how to effectively market it.
+ I’m tired of waking up every day worrying about money and would like to learn how I can stop doing that.
+ I’ve got a lot things going on my my life and need some help figuring out what my priorities are.
+ I want to grow my business but I’m not sure what to do to make that happen.

Spring has sprung!

LilacFinally – some warmer weather has arrived.  Of course, it could be a case of ‘be careful what you ask for’ as the weather forecasters are predicting temperatures in the 80’s here this week!  In any case, with all of the rain we’ve had recently and these warmer temperatures, the apple tree and lilacs are blooming, the grass is growing like crazy and the frogs are croaking in the pond. Spring is officially here!

No matter what’s on your to-do list or how busy you may be, take a few minutes to bask in that great feeling of the newness of spring. Look closely at the fine details and brilliant colors of the blooming flowers. Inhale the fragrant spring smells as deeply as you can. And drink in a bit of sunshine (don’t forget your sunscreen, though!) or listen to the rhythmic sounds of the raindrops as they hit the ground. It’s a great way to refresh your soul and spark your creative juices.

TODAY’S TIP: Enjoy a bit of spring and have a MAGNIFICENT Monday!

Versatile Skills for Success and Mom

Since it’s Mother’s Day weekend, I thought I would share a wonderful article by Angela Giles, 7 Versatile Skills Women Need to Succeed at Anything. Angela’s list includes:

1. Being positive
2. Analytical thinking and information analysis
3. Time management and prioritization
4. Money management
5. Productive communication and negotiation
6. Networking
7. Relaxation

As I read through the article and looked at the list, two things came to mind.  First of all, I want to add #8 – Spirituality. I think when I’m disconnected from God (the universe, your higher power, etc.), it’s easier to get discouraged, my energy wanes, and the success I experience leaves me feeling unfulfilled.

Secondly, I’ve been thinking about the ways in which my own mother modeled these skills (or not!), how I modeled them for my children as they were growing up (or not!) and how I might now model them for my grandchildren and other women who are in my life.

What did you learn about these skills from your mother?  Which one is your gift?  Which one is your greatest challenge?
How do these skills show up in your life daily and how do you model them for the women in your life?

TODAY’S TIP: Have a conversation with someone about how you are living into each of these “skills for success” and have a SENSATIONAL SATURDAY!

Monday Morning Happiness

It’s Monday! Do you have the Monday morning blues, Monday morning happiness, or somewhere in between? Where are you on the happiness-o-meter today?

I’ve been reading Dr. Robert Holden’s book, Be Happy: Release the Power of Happiness in YOU, and doing the exercises and activities he has shared. It’s been an interesting, fascinating and fun experience!

smileyfaceDr. Holden’s basic understanding is that we have have two selves: an Unconditioned Self which is our ‘original self’ that is already happy and a Learned Self, our self-image that develops out of our life experiences. He believes that our Unconditioned Self arrives as gifted, brilliant and non-judgmental. [I love his comment that he’s never heard of a newborn baby who popped out of the womb only to look around and comment, “Well, this is not as nice as I had expected!”] Our Unconditioned Self finds joy in just being while our Learned Self is doing, going, wanting, searching and looking for happiness.

So what about you?  Are you happy this Monday morning? When have you been happy? What does happiness feel like to you? Where are you on the happiness-o-meter?

TODAY’S TIP: Be mindful of happiness in your business and your life today. What does happiness look like and feel like for you? Have a MARVELOUSLY happy Monday!

Here’s my two-fold offer to you today:  first of all, I’d like to be part your Personal Success Support Team. The Unreasonable Experiment

Recently, while watching late, late, late night PBS programming, I “discovered” Dr. Robert Holden.  I was fascinated by what he had to say and by the titles of his books:  Shift Happens!, Authentic Success, Be Happy, Happiness NOW!, and Loveability.

Shift Happens! How to Live an Inspired Life . . . Starting Right Now! is a collection of brief writings (they could have been blog posts!), snippets, or tidbits of inspiration that have the capacity to change your thinking and your behavior.  It’s a great little book to have around and pretty handy when you are having “one of those days” when you are feeling less than inspired, less than successful, less than enthusiastic, less than happy or downright crabby about your business or life in general.

One of the entries in the book (page 171) is titled “Be unreasonable!”.  In this piece, Dr. Holden explains his belief that “happiness needs no reason, love needs no reason, and kindness needs no reason.”  He encourages readers to “be still for a moment and meditate on unreasonable joy.  See if you can let your innate joy bubble up for no good reason.” (page 174).

UnreasonableI am proposing that you join in an “unreasonable” experiment today.  In what ways can you be “more unreasonable than usual”?  Here are some of his suggestions:  (page 174)

  • Be unreasonably kind to yourself today.
  • Kiss your partner for no reason at all.
  • Smile the unreasonable smile at work.
  • Call a friend for no specific reason.
  • Choose to have a great day, regardless.
  • Meditate on unreasonable joy today.
  • Dress up, eat out, your treat, no reason.
  • Let no reason stop you being you today.

Go wild.  Be unreasonable. Let me know what happens.

TODAY’S TIP:  Be unreasonable.

1 Million Cups

1MC IconEntrepreneurially (and I’m not sure if that’s a real word or one I just made up!), Kansas City has it GOIN’ ON right now!  Every Wednesday morning, entrepreneurs from across the area gather for 1 Million Cups, sponsored by Kauffman Labs and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. It’s an incredible group of entrepreneurs, advisors and mentors.  Participants are encouraged to leave their agendas by the door and ask the question of others — “What can I do to help you grow your business?”  The group celebrated it’s first year birthday yesterday.  Last year at this time 12 souls gathered to kick off this networking adventure.  Yesterday, there were almost 200 in the room!  The leadership of 1 Million Cups has done a stellar job in creating an atmosphere of support and encouragement for start-ups of all kinds and even for those businesses who may have been around a while and are ready to take it up a notch.

If you’re an entrepreneur in the Kansas City area, stop in.  It’s a place to share your support, get inspired, make great connections and even enjoy a beverage or two (hot or cold)!  See you there!!

TODAY’S TIP:  Share a beverage and conversation with someone who can help you take your business (or your life!) to the next level.  Have a fabulous Thursday!
